To celebrate the 25th anniversary, Cape Studies is thrilled to announce the revamp of their student residence.

Their historic property has been cleverly converted to create a home-away-from-home for the students. Besides the wonderful convenience of staying at the school premises, students will be greeted with incredible views of Cape Town and all her splendor when relaxing on their balcony after a day of studies.  Should the weather not play along, students can always unwind downstairs in our cozy lounge area equipped with a fireplace.

The residence has both private and shared rooms and are all nicely decorated with an African feel, portraits of local scenery and a desk to study at. Students also have the option of studying with their friends at the communal dining room table.

A stone’s throw away from the legendary V&A Waterfront, pubs and restaurants, a mere 20-minute walk to the beach and a 3-minute walk to the MyCiti bus route places Cape Studies in the heart of Green Point.

The owner, Jens, and the Head of School, Esté, are always available to students should they need any assistance which only further enforces the fact that Cape Studies is the ultimate location to learn English.

FindCourse.com, Your Source to Studying Free in Germany

Did you know that enrollment in higher education at public universities in Germany is free, regardless of your country of origin?

Last month of November, three members of Team FindCourse.com travelled to Germany and visited Schiller Language School in Bonn and Sprachcaffe in Frankfurt.  Thanks to its agreements, FindCourse.com can provide with all the assistance you need to apply to both German language schools and universities. The platform, leader in international education, offers several study options to study abroad in Germany. Expert advisers can assist getting students through the application process for the study field of their choice.

Mohammed from FindCourse.com in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia is one of the advisers who can help you with all the necessary information to get admitted for your studies. Mohammed shared his trip experience: “It was a great and very interesting trip. First we attended ICEF Berlin 2018, it was a successful and productive conference; we met a lot of partners and worked out ways to make the application process seamless. We toured around the city, which was an extraordinary experience.  Then we moved to Bonn, it was fantastic, we visited Schiller Language School and took a small trip in the city too.  Afterwards we continued to Frankfurt and visited Sprachcaffe Language School campus and accommodation facilities. We had just enough time to get to know about this wonderful city.”

Qosay, from FindCourse.com Abu Dhabi, also had a great experience:
“I think Germany as a whole is an interesting country that inspires to study and learn about their culture. I liked Bonn in particular, it’s a small city compared to others, which makes its inhabitants more friendly and visitors feel more welcomed. The museums and churches give the city another attraction for those who are interested in historical or artistic places. Personal spending in Bonn is lower than in most cities in Germany, which I think can be very attractive for many students.”

To consider:

– The national qualifications of countries of the European Union are recognized in the German university system.

– The national qualifications of countries that are not part of the European Union need to be verified if they are accepted at the university that you wish to apply. In case you are not accepted, you can take an admission test for international students called TestAS (Test Für Ausländische Studierende).

– You need proof that you can speak German.

– The requirements depend on the university or institution in which you wish to enroll, but usually a level 2 is required in the DSH or level 4 in the Test DaF.

Study Abroad Checklist

If you are travelling abroad and all your academic programme and accommodation arrangements have been made, make a list  of important items you need to take with you or consider prior to your trip. Making a list and crossing items once they are in your possession is an organized approach and will save you from ‘last minute troubles.’

Here is a list of some the tp 10 things you should never forget.

Passport

Ultimately, the most important thing. Imagining worst case scenario, what if you go to airport at the time of your flight departure and forget your passport? Not only will it be shameful but also you will miss your flight.

Have some photocopies of your passport in your hand carry as well as inside main luggage. If your passport gets misplaced or stolen in a foreign country, you can contact your local embassy in that country to get a new one.

Your Documents

When going to another country, your set of documents identifies who you are. Inside the airports, security officials will ask who you are and why are you going to another country. Carry more than one valid ID and always make a copy of them and save an electronic copy.

Currency

Get some local currency and get some dollars. Keep some of it with you and some of it in different bag compartments. Sometimes, it is better to have some local currency taken from home to another country because who knows – will you find good money exchangers in that piece of land? There can also be more chances of fraud.

Another good way to keep currency is by having a debit card but do inform your bank that you are going to another country so that they don’t block your card.

Dos and Don’ts of a Country

Every country is different. While one thing may seem normal in your country, it may be a punishable crime in another. Google ‘dos and don’ts of a country’ – where you are going.

Getting Necessary Information

You will be in an unknown country. It is better if you check up on Google about the place of your stay. You can check YouTube about life in *particular city. See average monthly cost of a student inside the city.

Language

Install some Android/IOS apps which teach you the popular phrases of that language.

TIP: If you know the local language, you can always bargain at traditional markets otherwise people will mistake you for a foreigner and may rip off money from you.

Insurance

Some people think of travelling insurance as an additional investment. Think of it this way ‘what if you don’t spend a little money now and over there, you have an emergency that is going to be very expensive?  Foreign medical expenditures are very costly.

Get a good travelling insurance policy which is applicable in another country, has a low or no deductible and covers both medical and travel needs.

Essentials

Bring clothes, toothbrush, towel, bed sheets and mobile charger so you have everything you need during the first couple of days while you settle in the new home or residence.

Journal

Pack a journal in your hand luggage. It is always a write idea to write things you don’t want to forget or information you would like to pass on to friends and family.

Hard Copy of Important Documents

Print information it is important for you to have in case you cant access your mobile or any other electronic device. Insurance policy number,  emergency contact, address and photo numbers of key people…

What items do you recommend to never leave behind?

Learn from Panamanian student, Johanna del Carmen Jurado Tello why she recommends IH Dublin.

I thought Dublin would be the right place to learn a good English and I wanted to live a different experience and then achieve my goal. People here are super friendly and without a doubt they opened my personality.

I love life in Dublin, is in an organized country, clean and with a charming culture. It is beautiful in each of its weather stations is just a matter of getting used to and enjoy them to the fullest. I had the opportunity to enjoy Dublin during the winter, spring and summer.

Public transport is efficient and comfortable only that I consider a bit expensive, like the rent, for the rest I consider that it has good cost for example food, drinks and clothes.

My experience in International House has been wonderful because I met people from different countries, I made new friends, got to know new cultures and I improved my English very fast thanks to my classes and incredible teachers. Thank you to each of the teachers for their patience, good teaching methodology and undoubtedly for their love day after day.

Thanks to my running club people for every Wednesday! We shared those kilometers and good pictures haha.

Thanks to the best Social Programme Duna! for every word of encouragement when I became sentimental and missed my family; she told me we can show you that everything will be worth it and had fun walks and activities for each day of the week.

Thank you, teacher Aisling, for supporting me in this beautiful world of articles and to be in each of them with your tips and corrections that undoubtedly were and will always be for me very important.

Without a doubt, I will return to my country with lots of memories and experiences, this time in Ireland has made me stronger, more independent, and more confident in myself. I strongly recommend it to everyone.

Trust, love and live! There is only one life.  Forever in my heart and thank you for making me feel at home.

I LOVE INTERNATIONAL HOUSE.

I LOVE DUBLIN.
